Midnight at the Fireworks Stand
Alison Bremner | Acrylic paint, vintage and found wallpaper on wood panel | 48" x 36" x 1.5" | 2022
In Indigenous communities, the fireworks stand is a late night gathering place where the full spectrum of community life unfolds. This work by Alison Bremner is part of a series based on true stories. Rather than centering only those Indigenous people deemed well-adjusted by post-contact standards, Bremner turns her gaze toward a wider view. This story is one from those born out of dysfunction, fierce and stubborn, and surviving against all odds.
